Chazz Palminteri Signs to Write, Co-Produce "Wall Street Mafia"
Wall Street Drama Set to Begin Filming on Location in New York by February
Academy Award®-nominated actor Chazz Palminteri has signed a deal to write and co-produce "Wall Street Mafia" with California-based Fiore Films.
The film is expected to be in pre-production by December with filming to begin on-location in New York in February and a nationwide theatrical release towards the end of 2010. An announcement is expected shortly on the film's director and actors. According to Fiore Films president and CEO Marc Fiore, the company is "in negotiations with award-winning creative talent and actors."
In addition to writing and co-producing, Palminteri may also co-star in the film, depending on his schedule. Palminteri is also currently performing his hit Broadway show "A Bronx Tale" to sold-out audiences in theatres across the country. Palminteri will be seen next in "A Bronx Tale" at The Venetian in Las Vegas October 17-18.
"Chazz is part of an all-star team being assembled for this film," said Fiore. "There has been tremendous interest in 'Wall Street Mafia' based on the storyline and the fact that Chazz is writing the script."
"Wall Street Mafia" is based on the true story of the FBI's investigation into the mafia's involvement in Wall Street and the world of finance during the mid-1990s that ultimately led to the arrest of several hundred individuals and the shuttering of more than two-dozen brokerage firms. Against this backdrop, the film tells the story of Bobby Bataglia, a young executive who left the streets of Brooklyn for a college education and a career on Wall Street. After accepting a partnership at a supposedly reputable brokerage house, Batalgia finds out the firm is in business with the Mob. Unable to leave because of threats on his life, Batalglia finds himself caught between the Mob and the FBI's aggressive tactics to get him to talk. The story continues to unfold as Bataglia tries to escape the life he so desperately wanted to avoid as a kid on the streets of Brooklyn.
Academy Award®-nominated actor Chazz Palminteri is best-known for his tour-de-force performance on Broadway in "A Bronx Tale." He went on to write the screenplay and co-star in the screen adaptation of "A Bronx Tale" alongside Robert De Niro, who also made his directorial debut with the film. Palminteri has more than 50 movies to his credit including "The Usual Suspects," "Bullets Over Broadway" (Academy Award® nomination, Independent Spirit Award winner), "Analyze This," "Hurlyburly," and "Mulholland Falls." He has also directed the HBO series "Oz," Showtime's "Women vs. Men" and the feature film "Noel" starring Susan Sarandon, Penelope Cruz, Robin Williams and Paul Walker. He was last seen on the New York stage in the play "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui" starring with Al Pacino, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi and Billy Crudup.
