Fiore Films has announced the start date on its high-profile John Gotti biopic.
The independent production company said Tuesday that “Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father” will begin principal photography Jan. 3 on-location in New York.
John Travolta stars as John Gotti in the film, which also will feature Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Kelly Preston. The roles of John Gotti Jr. and Victoria Gotti will be cast in the coming weeks.
Fiore Films said director Barry Levinson and screenwriter James Toback are completing a revised version of the original screenplay.
The film “reveals the relationship of a father who lived and died by the mob code and a son who chose to leave that world behind and redeem himself,” Fiore said in a press release.
Fiore Films acquired the rights to the “Gotti” from John Gotti Jr., marking the first time a member of the Gotti family is allowing their story to be told on film.
Pre-production on the film will begin in September.
